Rod Percival Builders Ltd - Award Winning Builders, are situated on the spectacular Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island of New Zealand. With their Head Office and Workshop located in the seaside resort of Whitianga, Rod and his team of highly skilled, Award Winning builders have developed a nation-wide reputation for outstanding quality, service and innovation.

The company's origin stems from Marton, a town in the Rangitikei region of the lower North Island, New Zealand. It was in Marton during the 1970's when Rod took over the running of the family company - Percival & Sons Limited. Having completed his apprenticeship, Rod and his younger brother Chris worked together with their father, Patrick Percival and developed a reputation for outstanding quality and exceptional attention to detail - Qualities that are the backbone and philosophy of Rod's company today.

Five years later the company would enter a new era, a fresh decade. With the retirement of their father, the company was re-launched as Percival Bros. Limited. With a focus on labour only construction the company extended its reputation throughout the Manuwatu and Rangitikei regions, building primarily in Palmerston North, Marton and Wanganui.

1984 would see the Percival brothers go their separate ways, Chris and his young family to Perth, Australia. Rod, his wife Sue, and their three children to Whenuakite on the Coromandel Peninsula. It was here that Rod Percival Builders Ltd began, on a 67 acre rural bush block set amidst the grandeur of untouched waterfalls, ancient Kauri and a region that was about to explode in unison with New Zealand's rapidly developing tourism and "lifestyle" boom!!!

New to the Coromandel and the unique infrastructure that the local community had developed, Rod built on a small scale (single projects) with two to three staff members for approximately eight years. However, it wasn't long before Rod Percival Builders Ltd was once again at the forefront of quality, service and innovation and had developed a reputation that was gaining awareness nationwide. With increased participation in the Registered Master Builders prestigious House of the Year Awards, Rod Percival Builders Ltd made the critical and ultimately essential move to Whitianga, a move that has catapulted the company into yet again another era.

Reflecting on where the company had been, where it was and where Rod wanted it to be, he set firm his personal and business goals creating a vision for excellence and professionalism in building.


Rod knew that to stay cutting-edge in any industry required the ability to adapt, diversify and introduce the company to new technologies. Taking full advantage of computers and leading industry software, Rod was able to branch out into a variety of important and specialised markets. Maintaining a focus on innovative, architectural homes, the company also recognised the market's need for lower-cost beach cottages, to put it simply - The good old Kiwi Beach Bach!!! In addition, continual growth in the town centre resulted in Rod and his team applying their knowledge and expertise to several light commercial buildings and their first fully equipped waterfront restaurant, On the Rocks.

The late 1990's spelt phenomenal growth for the Coromandel region and subsequently the building industry. Capitalising on the rapid development of Matarangi Beach Estate - a lifestyle resort 30 kilometres north of Whitianga, Rod engaged in several high profile, architectural projects including a Francis Clarke designed home for Dr Marcus and Sheree Stone of Auckland. Completed in 1998, Rod Percival Builders Ltd entered the home along with three others into the Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards. The home launched the company into the industry spotlight, taking first place in it's category as well as the coveted Supreme Award for the Auckland/Northern Region. In September of that year, this outstanding project won first place for Category 5 at the New Zealand House of the Year Awards. Rod Percival Builders Ltd became an industry household name throughout the country.

1998 proved the catalyst for propelling the company into the new millennium. E-Commerce has resulted in Rod building around the clock. Through development of a fully functional web-site and extensive use of E-mail, the company has literally gone global, receiving inquiry and engaging in projects that have been communicated to owners and developers around the world. Using high quality digital photography, the construction process and any variations can be conveyed to all interested parties immediately, dramatically improving speed and efficiency, another example of the commitment to quality and service that Rod Percival Builders Ltd employs.
