ALBUQUERQUE, NM (September 2007) – Award-winning American Clay Enterprises has been selected by the office of Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez to host a press conference announcing the City’s important new task forces on ‘green’ city investments and purchasing. The press conference will be held on Friday, September 21st at 2:00pm MST at American Clay, 8724 Alameda Park Drive NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87113. American Clay Earth Plasters – nationally available - are 100% natural, produce no off-gassing on site, inhibit mold growth, and contain no VOCs. For press conference and policy information, please contact Deborah James, the City’s Public Information Officer, 505-768-3036.
Selecting the American Clay facility is a strong acknowledgement by the City of the high level of ‘green’ product and mission-based accomplishments that American Clay has achieved, from winning NAHB’s Outstanding New Green Product Award in 2004 to appearing in INC. Magazine’s “The Green 50” list, the New York Times and many prominent eco-focused print and broadcast outlets. They have also been featured as one of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in the state by the New Mexico Business Weekly (6/22/07).
The Mayor’s office has used American Clay Earth Plasters and there are plans to use the product in additional department offices. Croft Elsaesser, American Clay Founder and CEO, states, “The forward-thinking approach to green initiatives by the Mayor and the City of Albuquerque is one of the key reasons we maintain our facilities here. And the fact that the City is taking stands that align very well with the American Clay mission, emphasizes both our approaches to acting and not just talking.” Elsaesser has also been invited to participate on a panel with the Mayor on teaching the youth of today to be sustainable leaders tomorrow. The panel is on Tuesday, Sept. 25th.
American Clay’s mission is to create healthy solutions for the planet, so in addition to producing a truly ‘green’ product, some additional environmentally friendly practices as a company are:
All packaging is biodegradable, recyclable, or reusable in one form or another.
Their products qualify for up to 7 LEED credits on LEED certification projects.
Their manufacturing uses low inherent energy to produce the products. i.e. 250 tons of material costs $45 in electricity.
They use no water in their manufacturing.
They ask that no one use perfumes or chemical emitting materials when working.
American Clay Enterprises has just recently moved to this location, in part to lower the commute distance for a number of their employees. They more than doubled their space, making room for the increased demand for production, and first-time, designated rooms for R&D, workshops, showcase walls for local applicators, and corporate offices.
