We approached Rod Percival just before Christmas 2001 within two weeks of arriving permanently in New Zealand. The plans for our house were already at an advanced stage and we had received building consent, so were in a position for Rod to start building almost immediately we signed the contract. This fitted in well with his work programme and we were able to start building within six weeks.
We were impressed with Rod's business-like approach in the early stages and with the practical solutions he proposed to the few remaining problems with our original design. He was able to work well with our design architect and we soon had a workable design that still embraced our original concepts.
We were generally pleased with the speed of progress and were able to put on the "roof shout" in little over two month's from the first sod being turned. The whole project took a little under seven months to completion.
A very high standard of work was maintained throughout the contract and Rod was not afraid to ask sub-contactors to redo work he was not satisfied with. There was a good working relationship among the sub-contractors and builders and a good deal of humour helped counteract the inevitable traumas of the building process. The outcome is a high quality house, fully meeting our specification, much admired by friends and visitors and with which we are very pleased.
