Project Details

As a leading Green Builder who is committed to truly sustainable products and materials Rod is proud to launch Percival designer Homes the Companies first Green Showhome. This home is situated in Whitianga Waterway's new Airfield subdivision at 1 Yankee Lane.

Designed to suit the corner site, the design team of Lynda Vugler, Rod and Brad Percival carefully considered the changing demographic in Whitianga and identified how various tenant groups might use the home. The result is a clean use of space that easily adapts to the needs and luxuries of the owners, providing a safe environment to come home to, a home built with commonsense and a home that definitely adheres to the iconic statement, Form follows function.

Green Building Principles were the driving force behind the use of sustainable materials.
Weatherboard and Fascia are both New Zealand grown cedar, higher R value Wool insulation, double glazing, solar hot water and under floor heating, 100% wool carpets to the bedrooms and the lounge, polished colour concrete to the garage with tiles to the remainder of the home.

The interior walls have been plastered with American Clay and along with the use of low VOC paints have created a healthy home. Several Cavity sliders have been used to enhance the functionality of this 194m2 Home.

The design which was initially based on simple aircraft lines, creates spaces for the organic garden, kids play area and optional entertaining outdoor living areas.

Unobstructed views to the East and the high gable design allow to sun to stream into the kitchen in the mornings. This home is leading the way in Green, Sustainable and Healthy Homes.

Rod's Comment

Our foreman for this project was David Speight, Waikato Region Apprentice of the Year 2005. David is off to Unitec to study for a Bachelor of Construction, but before he sets off, we wanted to give David the opportunity of running a project himself. This "green building" project will give David invaluable foresight into the future of the construction industry.
