Rod's Comment

Fusion Perfect! between Architect / Owner / Builders. A project doesn't get any more harmonious than this one. It was particularly pleasing for me that I was able to persuade and encourage John & Jenny to use NZ plantation grown timber throughout their bach and the result speaks for itself.

Client Referral - J & J Villiger

Our experience with Rod and his team has been outstanding at all levels. Rod was a delight to deal with: he was open, honest, friendly and proactive. I would base their performance on time, cost and quality:

Time: Building started in June 2007 and we were promised a functional 95% complete house for Christmas 2007. That is precisely what we got! The guys put in a mammoth effort, and we enjoyed a wonderful summer in a completely finished house. We never believed it would happen, and know a number of other families building batches that were promised the same thing, and none of them were in for Christmas.

Cost: We had a fixed quote from Rod, and apart from agreed variations he stuck to the quote and we never had any disagreement on costs.

Quality: We are not builders, but were impressed with the quality of workmanship from our lay perspective. Whenever we have anyone come through the house who knows anything about building (friends, architects and other builders) they invariably comment on the quality of the building (unprovoked by us). And of course Rod's peers in the Auckland region judged this house the best house in the price category at the recent Auckland Registered Master Builders awards held recently. It really is a beautifully built house - we had high quality design and materials, but the construction is outstanding.

Finally, Rod and his team are committed to sustainability in building. The original batch on site was deconstructed and gifted to people locally in Whangapoua and Whitianga - there are bits of the old batch all over the place. Donations were taken for the local Playcentre. The new house was designed and built to be as energy efficient as practicable (solar water heating, rainwater retention, double glazing, insulation on all surfaces etc). At Rod's suggestion all of the timber used in the house came from New Zealand plantations (Lawson's Cypress weatherboards and sarking, Pilularis floors and decking).
